Gretel Fernsby, 91, has resided in the same affluent mansion block in London for decades. She had a dark, terrible history, but she now leads a tranquil, comfortable life. She keeps quiet about leaving Nazi Germany when she was twelve. She avoids discussing the difficult post-war era in France with her mother. She avoids talking about her father, who oversaw one of the most infamous extermination camps in the Reich. Later, a brand-new family settles into the apartment directly below her. Gretel is forced to become friends with the young kid Henry despite the fact that his presence brings back unpleasant memories for her. One evening, Gretel's hard-won, independent existence is threatened by a strange, violent dispute between his gorgeous mother and his haughty father. In All The Broken Places, a woman whose life has been plagued by the past travels back and forth in time from Gretel's childhood in Germany to modern-day London. Gretel is at a crossroads identical to the one she was at before. She denied her own involvement back then, but now that she has the time to examine her shame, anguish, and remorse, she can decide to save a small kid. If she does, she will be compelled to divulge the truths she has been keeping hidden her entire life. She has the freedom to choose differently this time around, even at her own expense.
