Jade, a young single Black mother, has suffered the devastating loss of her husband with her son Gee. Jade is in nursing school, trying to manage her grief and her love for her son. Across town, Lacey May’s husband Robbie, who was good friends with Jade’s husband, has landed himself in jail after trying to steal a police officer's car while under the influence. Desperate to pay the bills, Lacey May ends up doing whatever it takes to do better for her three girls. When the local high school begins integrating Black children, decisions will create pathways into the future that will span a lifetime.
