Lots of good ideas for stich combinations. Very attractive book and inspiring. I have not yet used this book, but I will keep it in mind for future projects.

I love Natalie Chanin`s work, but she is not breaking any new ground in realizing embroidery stitches work on a grid. Using templates to mark where the stitches go is just adding an extra step - maybe helpful in learning but useless and impractical in the long run. Patience, practise and developing a feel for how the needle, thread and cloth work together is much more important - but that takes time, and everyone is looking for a shortcut these days.

Amazing book! The founder of fashion line, Alabama Chanin, breaks hand-stitches down into their basic parts. In the back of the book, you'll find two plastic sheets with holes punched in grids to help in practicing the stitches. Please remember to leave the plastic sheets in the book for the next person! :-)

What a beautiful book! I must admit that the stitchery is a bit beyond my basic-level skills right now, but this is something to work towards. And even with only a few, easy stitches at my fingertips, the imagery inspires ideas.
