An intimate, powerful, and inspiring memoir by the former First Lady of the United States In a life filled with meaning and accomplishment, Michelle Obama has emerged as one of the most iconic and compelling women of our era. As First Lady of the United States of America—the first African American to serve in that role—she helped create the most welcoming and inclusive White House in history, while also establishing herself as a powerful advocate for women and girls in the U.S. and around the world, dramatically changing the ways that families pursue healthier and more active lives, and standing with her husband as he led America through some of its most harrowing moments. Along the way, she showed us a few dance moves, crushed Carpool Karaoke, and raised two down-to-earth daughters under an unforgiving media glare. In her memoir, a work of deep reflection and mesmerizing storytelling, Michelle Obama invites readers into her world, chronicling the experiences that have shaped her—from her childhood on the South Side of Chicago to her years as an executive balancing the demands of motherhood and work, to her time spent at the world's most famous address. With unerring honesty and lively wit, she describes her triumphs and her disappointments, both public and private, telling her full story as she has lived it—in her own words and on her own terms. Warm, wise, and revelatory, Becoming is the deeply personal reckoning of a woman of soul and substance who has steadily defied expectations—and whose story inspires us to do the same.

Listening to this book, in Mrs. Obama's own voice, was mesmerizing.

I love her more, if that's possible. I admire her more, if that's possible.

Mrs. Obama honestly shares the trials of the campaign life, the brutal scrutiny of the media and public eye, the burden of raising young children in the White House, her love story with Barack, her ambition for better - for her, her girls, everyone.

This was absolutely a journey of a memoir. It was beautiful and captivating. I cried a LOT. I loved the way she tied a story of her adulthood to her childhood, reflecting on how our life is connected and there are always lessons to be learned. Within the ups and downs of everything, Mrs. Obama manages to offer practical hope for the future.

So very good on so many levels! So much to learn and identify with in Michelles's story. She explores in great detail the phases of her life. I certainly learned a lot and came away inspired and motivated. Very Recommended.

I opted for the audio version of this book and thoroughly enjoyed hearing it in Mrs. Obama's own passionate voice. Not only do I recommend this book but I suggest that you listen to it with a pen and pad nearby as she offers a lot of sage, applicable insight worth revisiting for years to come!

I know most of the people reading this book are probably women, but men would be interested in hearing Michelle's behind-the-scenes account of the Obama's journey to the White House. Fascinating.

I highly recommend listening to this book rather than reading it. It is read by Mrs. Obama and it feels like she is telling you her life story. It was wonderful.

I’d been lucky to have parents, teachers, and mentors who’d fed me with a consistent, simple message: You matter.
As an adult, I wanted to pass those words to a new generation.
