I am a huge true crime reader, and of course I love Ann Rule (R.I.P) books, but since I have read almost every one of her books, my husband who is a James Patterson fan saw this book and convinced me to read it. I could not put it down, I read it in 1 day. I stayed up all night. I knew the story from ESPN, local news, and Sports Illistrated, and was blown away by the well written works of the authors. It made it real in a way by the authors doing his back story. I feel for the families involved all the way around. I hope that his daughter gets a well rounded and wonderful upbringing. I have to say I may read other Patterson books when I run out of true crime authors that I like.

I agree with previous commenters who have said they knew little about Hernandez of her than what appeared on the national news. I appreciated this book for clearly and simply explaining who Hernandez was growing up, where he came from and how hish circumstances contributed to the many unfortunate decisions he made as an adult.

It is sadly obvious that the wheels had started to come off the bus even before he attended Florida. The culture of permissiveness surrounding the Florida football program enabled his increasingly dangerous behavior, and returning to New England to play pro ball put him right back in the circumstances that endangered him to begin with.

I had to chuckle when it was pointed out that Hernandez particularly enjoyed reading James Patterson books while incarcerated. I am not sure I would have been bragging on that, if I were Patterson.

Surprisingly good. I am not a huge sports fan but I enjoyed reading about this.

i had heard thru news media about some of this story while it was happening and did not expect to be so captivated by this book. i kept having to remind myself that this was not one of the fictional crime novels that i usually read, but this was real! very well written!

I am not a big reader of Patterson's books but I did like this one. The author's research into Hernandez character explained much about his actions and how he ended up in prison. I also learned more about Hernandez through the people he had around him from his wife to his family and enabling "buddies". And, no shocker, he had a serious amount of brain damage and had stage III CTE.
