Zac has made a decision. He wants his dad (Liam) to come to his eleventh birthday party. Since his dad supposedly "did a runner" and deserted him and his mom (Juliet) before he was born, Zac enlists the help of his best friend (Teagan) and they get started months in advance.
The story is told from three POV: Zac, Juliet and Juliet's father (Mick). The alternating POVs added an interesting dimension to the plot and gave us insights into the backstory. This book touches on many issues: dying industries and the effect on the population, missing fathers, alcoholism, obesity, asthma, parent-child relationships and the consequences of living a lie. Recommended for book groups with the following caveat: Some readers may find the abundance of the word f*** to be a bit distracting -- I did. A consequence of American vs British language choices.
