Love my slow cooker/crock pot, especially with summer coming up and you really don’t want to cook. Martha Stewart usually has a few recipes with ingredients I’ve never heard of—so I have to skip those or make my own substitution. This book has several curry recipes which are always nice when you want something spicy/tangy. She has a recipe for poached salmon. I have never poached fish, but had the best poached halibut a while ago, wasn’t sure how to make it, so I will try Martha’s crock pot recipe without the wine. Also, an overnight oatmeal recipe which I have always wanted to try since most can’t wait for breakfast. There are several duck recipes (no one likes duck at my house). There are also some recipes I won’t make in a slow cooker—cheese cake? Just bake it. There is also a recipe for jam that I need to try since I have the monster blackberry bush across the street. I never got into making jam stored in jars--this sounds much easier. Lots of photographs which always helpful.
Some good recipes here but lots of them are a bit too posh for everyday eating. A FAR BETTER slow cooker book is "Essential Slow Cooker Recipes - 103 Fuss-free Slow Cooker Meals Everyone Will Love" by Addie Gundry.
Martha Stewart readily admits that neither she or her mother owned a slow cooker.
Her team have put together some great recipes as well as tips and tricks.
The most obvious is for best results put some effort into the preparation - do not use bottled sauces without caramelising the meat and add some crunch to your dishes to finish them so they have texture and crunch.
Some of my favourites or ones I would like to try:
baking potatoes in a bed of salt while cooking fish in parchment, summer vegetable tian (thee picture is so tempting) and making jam in your slow cooker!
For my husband, maybe one day, I would make the cinnamon rolls or apple french toast.
The cheesecake looks interesting but I had never thought of creme brulee in a slow cooker.
For those who like international menus, the recipes are very diverse.
