" by JOSEPH PINE II and JAMES GILMORE. Every business is based on what they choose to charge money for. Therefore, the most important question to every business should be: "what do my customers value the most?". This isn't always easy to answer, but when you do, you will know which areas to focus on, and crucially, where to add value. Many of your customers will pay more money for a premium product. In fact, if you get your added value (i. e. "experience") right, customers will even pay a fee for admission. Pine and Gilmore explain the benefits of the Experience Economy, and to transition your business into it. Good Experience Companies find a way to make their business escapist, but also useful; they combine entertainment with knowledge or skill. Experience-based businesses develop products that are multi-locational and often create their own form of reality. It's important to not just meet basic customer expectations, but also their most ambitious expectations. The authors argue compellingly that businesses are always on stage, and must act accordingly. The Experience Economy is a new, and convincing paradigm for forward-thinking companies who see the importance of continually reassessing customer wants.
