An Unauthorized Biography on David Beckham'eBook - 2011
Global phenomenon, fashion icon, multi-millionaire - these are only some of the labels given to one of the best football players of all time, David Beckham. Such is his fame that the average bystander will be able to tell you who he plays for, who he's married to, and the names of his children in chronological order! Remarkably though, he hasn't let his status go to his head. He recognizes that he is a role model to his young fans, and keeps it real by never refusing to sign an autograph. From the mid-to-late 1990's it would be fair to say that David Robert Joseph Beckham was well-known for one thing, and one thing only - his prowess on the football field (sometimes called soccer in countries that have their own football codes). Playing for powerhouse club Manchester United, Becks and his famous right foot earned superstar status by consistently piercing the opposition's defense, either by setting up goals for others, or kicking them himself. This talent, along with a drive for success and obvious leadership qualities has seen him captain England in two World Cup series, and become the first English player to score in three World Cups. He has also featured in 100 Championship matches, as well as finishing runner-up in the FIFA World Player of the Year. Europe, Asia, the United States or Australia, wherever Beckham roams, Beckham-mania is sure to follow. His marriage to Posh Spice, aka Victoria Adams, in 1999, marked the beginning of the world's fascination with everything Beckham, and since then, his life seems to have become public property. It's probably just as well, then, that Becks seems at home with all the attention. Although he's been criticized for being less than eloquent when speaking in public, there's no doubt he knows exactly what to say to keep the fans coming back for more!
