This was another fun, enjoyable book by Meg Cabot. This book is written for adults, but is about the main character from her "Mediator" books for young adults, who is now all grown up and no longer a teen in this book. I have never read any of the books from that series, but that was OK because Cabot referred to them a lot in this one so I was all caught up. I found the blend of genres, the supernatural plus romance plus modern humour a little jarring at times, but overall I enjoyed the book. The jarring and shifting tones certainly didn't make this my favourite Meg Cabot book, but it was overall a fun, light-hearted romp and was certainly a pleasant summer read.
* a bit like the movie The Sixth Sense, but a little less freaky and a little more fun
* an interesting combination of the chick lit and paranormal genres
This was such a sweet and nostalgic read! Getting to experience beloved characters again was amazing!! I've loved this series for YEARS and I've been wishing and hoping for more! I fangirled SO HARD when I found out that she planned to publish this.
Suze and Jesse were still amazing; although, it ticked me off that not only does Suze still allow Paul to get under her skin, she still has trouble communicating with Jesse, still keeps secrets.
But, I guess that's just Suze.
I really hope Meg puts out more books... that this wasn't a one-off continuation. I'm really loving Adult Suze and Jesse and I'd really like to see where their life goes.
But to get onto an actual review....
I really did love this. I thought this was a very true to form, older creation of these characters and their story. Suze, Jesse, Cee-Cee, Paul, and the Ackerman brothers were different, but still very much the same. The changes in them were very organic.
The story itself was gripping... my attention never wavered. There were a few plot twists that genuinely surprised me!!
I found myself just as immersed in Suze's story, her love for Jesse, their struggles, and in her narration which was just as humorous as ever.
I'm really hoping for more, but I can understand why Meg would want to end it here if she chooses to do so. After all these years, we FINALLY got to feel more settled about the aftermath of Jesse's return, to see more of what their life together will be like.
