Tucker McBean loves comic books, so he’s especially excited when he finds out about a contest to create a new sidekick for his favorite super hero, H2O. If he wins Tucker hopes the prize would allow his mom to spend more time with him and his special-needs brother Beecher. The school bully Sam teasingly calls Tucker “Beanboy” because of his last name. But beans can be super, right? They can grow really fast and supply important nutrients. Plus Beanboy can emit poisonous gasses and even fly, through the power of beans.

I didn't like the prospect of his power being surrounded by beans and having to fart to fly.

Excellent book about a boy who draws cartoons. He is a sidekick too, an unlikely hero who befriends a bully, takes care of his special needs brother and wins a scholarship.

"hen aspiring comic-book artist Tucker MacBean enters a contest to create a new sidekick for his favorite superhero - Beanboy, whose superpower is his, ahem, "gaseous tendencies" (Booklist) - he's got a lot riding on whether or not he wins. Tucker hopes that stardom might make him more popular, and he wants to give the prize, a college scholarship, to his hardworking but exhausted single mum. Like the Wimpy Kid books, this story is told partly in cartoons and partly with words, but it's less sarcastic than Greg Heffley's diary entries and has a balance of seriousness and humour that fans of realistic, somewhat emotional stories will enjoy."
