Pretty drawings, but no interesting characters or story, stupid preface, and type in appendices too small to read.

This one was frankly just a bit odd for me. On the positive side I loved the art in the book. On the negative, it felt like it was missing substance. Heck even the forward isn't even worth reading (they basically jabber awkwardly and then just tell you they haven't even read the book). Its interesting to see the beginnings of the Dior fashion house from the inside, but it just left me wanting something more from the characters and the story as a whole.

Girl in Dior is a quasi-historical account of the inner workings of Christian Dior’s fashion house starting with his first Paris show in 1947. Clara, a young journalist and fashion enthusiast, is there for the historic event. Her journalism career doesn’t last much longer, but from its ashes she begins her new career as a fashion model for the house of Dior.

This book is a blend of fact and fiction because Clara’s not a real person. However, the rest of the cast is real, and Clara’s story gives the reader a way into the events of Dior’s rise to stardom. The illustrations are lovely! I’m not a fashionista, but the detailed depictions of these dresses look like they come from a fantasy land.

This is a fascinating read for anyone interested in women’s history, fashion, design, or even business. It's not a set of topics I would have normally been drawn to, but I really enjoyed it.

I read a book on Dior recently that gave a full account of his life and times.

This graphic novel gives you a taste of the way the world was as it first emerges after the hardships and spartan life of WWll when women wanted glamour and beauty in their lives again. Christian Dior gave them that and more while employing over 500 women and men and helping to bring a much needed revival to his beloved Paris. If you are a fan of graphic novels and exquisite clothes, please consider reading this novel. I am a sci-fi fan, but this was a nice departure from the chaos of outer space into the inner life of the fabulous world of fashion.

Beautiful drawings and the lists at the end of the book are wonderful.

That's good. Now you look like a girl in Dior.
