Awesome Man reveals all about being a superhero! Whether it is Professor von Evil attacking the city with an Antimatter Slimebot, or his arch-nemesis Flaming Eyeball come to defeat him, there is nothing he can't handle. He has super strength, can travel through time, fly, shoot beams from his eyes, and if that isn't enough, he also has a sidekick dog named Moskowitz. With such a bag of tricks up his sleeve, it's no wonder his victory rate is so high. As this picture book features a superhero, certain aesthetics reflect on comic books, such as: ben-day dots, dynamic posing, contrasting colours, and even a few "panelled" pages. In several instances there are subtle visual and written hints to Awesome Man's true identity, so when it is revealed that this is actually a little boy playing, we are not surprised. As a hero, this character is a good role model. He may have great destructive powers, but Awesome Man is a responsible superhero. Even if he can smash things, sometimes even wants to, he doesn't. Also, there are times when he needs a boost of positivity...fighting monsters can get tiresome and frustrating. He may not be Batman, or Iron Man, but Awesome Man will satisfy your little ones need for the heroic... at least for a while.

Which caped crusader is brave enough to clash with a giant Slimebot, powerful enough to shoot positronic rays from his eyes, and strong enough to fight Mutant Jell-O from Beyond the Stars? It's Awesome Man, of course! But when he's not hanging out with Moskowitz the Awesome Dog or battling his arch-nemesis the Flaming Eyeball, who is Awesome Man's secret alter ego? Observant kids may guess even before the funny reveal at the end. Retro-stylish art and tons of "hyperkinetic, hypercolored comic-book action" (School Library Journal) make this high-flying picture book a great choice for the smallest superhero fans.

Really bad book

Awesome Man is a pretty spectacular superhero, complete with cape, mask, and incredible superpowers for fighting evil villains. He also happens to live entirely in the imagination of our ordinary young protagonist?but that?s no problem! After feeling clever for figuring out Awesome Man?s secret, readers will enjoy watching this imaginative romp play out, right down to the concluding hug with real-life mom.
