She's on the road so there is a distinct lack of amusing brothers.

This cozy series stars Judge Debora Knott. She's trading some time with another judge in the mountains during the fall leaf time. Deborah, newly engaged and not sure she's doing the right thing, is expecting a time out to reconsider. Cases here are more complicated than back home. A big developer falls off his deck in what looks like an accident--until his head is found bashed in with a hammer. Then another man is found dead the same way. Worse personally, a reprimand to two kids who show up in court dressed inappropriately ends up with them following her into the mountains and bumping her car off a deserted road. Lucky for her, Dwight, her new fiance, has come to see her, and with the help of the local cops, they find her before dark on a night that would have been below freezing. That convinces her she does want to marry him. Charming, as are all I've read in this series. Many of the regular print have a genealogy chart, which helps a lot, as Deborah has 12 brothers and their families to keep track of!

I felt like I was in the mountains of North Carolina while I was reading this book--Maron really captures what it feels like to drive on steep hills on roads that curve around. A great page turner, and plausible ending--with a little romance that actually brought a tear to my eye!
