""Sense and Sensibility" by Jane Austen is another timeless classic that explores the themes of love, societal expectations, and the balance between reason and emotion. The novel follows the Dashwood sisters, Elinor and Marianne, as they…

While I very much enjoy Austen's writing style, I find this to be one of her weaker books. I struggle to care much for Elinor's plight because we never get to see any of her romance with Edward; we're told there are feelings but there are…

I will always love Pride and Prejudice and so when I review any of her other books, I will always judge them against that one. This was decent and I would willingly read it again, though I do prefer the Kate Winslet variation.

A solid 4. Not Austen's best writing, but after all, it is Austen.

A wonderful book by Austen. Has wit, intelligence, and emotion. I still like "Pride and Prejudice" and "Emma" better, but this is also a must read.

This story is a great example of the old style of writing - wordy and flowery. I listened to an audio version; Juliet Stevenson is an excellent reader of the style and voices, making it interesting to listen to and enjoy.

I hadn't read this in ages--or maybe this is the one Jane Austen I actually didn't read--and I was surprised by how difficult it was--long confusing sentences, for instance, too many people with the same last name, etc. It made for…

All the comfort known to Elinor, Marianne and Margaret Dashwood (readers hear very little from Margaret) suddenly disappears when they learn that the valuable estate of their rich relative is to be solely inherited by their half brother…

This novel is an exceptional example of what work by Jane Austen looks like. It portrays two women who grow stronger and closer together after a tragedy. Had this story been written by a male author, it perhaps would not have revolved so…

Austen's work is not for everyone, but if you are able to see past the teacups and dresses for the satire and wit, it becomes a whole new experience. Module6_jenkahlerSAIT

I read this book for the Well Read Mom's Book Club. Jane Austen is just not my cup of tea. I struggled though by making myself read at least 5 chapters a day. I did appreciate the sisterly love of Elinor and Marianne. I know this is…

Set in the early 19th century Regency Era- the same time period in which Austen lived- Sense and Sensibility depicts the relationship and characterization of two sisters, Elinor and Marianne Dashwood. The plot of the novel is set up by the…

I see all copies in use - you can easily download this book for free online from Project Gutenberg as it's in the public domain. Love all of Jane Austen's books!

Elinor and Marianne Dashwood are loving but very different sisters. Elinor is all about social propriety, and Marianne about sentiments. One has too much sense, and the other sensibility. Yet they both struggle with love. The mother of…

It took me a while to get into this book (partly because I had to get re-used to Jane Austen's writing style), but by the end I was definitely enjoying it. I was feeling a little claustrophobic stuck in that tiny cottage for most of Volume…

Finally finished this, after over a month of reading it. I read Wuthering Heights not long ago, and it didn't give me *too* much trouble, so I thought this one would be relatively easy. I was so wrong. First off, Austen's writing is so…

One of my favorite Jane Austen books. I wish I had read this before I saw the film years ago.

alright absolutely fantastico goodbye in Italian and Spanish. I did Not see the book, but I read the movie. How is that? I loved every splendid hour of power and I never thought that I would be able to sit still enough to know the beauty…

First Jane Austen book I've read. It's long and boring, but I find the situation comical. Elinor's and Marianne's beaux seem to have other beaux, and you just have to wait and find out what happens!

I have read and love all of Jane Austen's books, and am now listening to the audio versions one by one. Donada Peters does an exceptional job reading, and I appreciated the wonderful inflection and character traits she provides. Well worth…

This is the first Austen book I've read. It came across, at first, as a soap opera written in a flowerly, pretentious manner. However, upon second thought, Austen's feminine "sense" comes through in the story of the Dashwood sisters and…
